Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday warned that the rapid rise of artificial intelligence could wipe out a large number of white-collar jobs in the coming years, saying the govts Telangana Rising Vision-2047 blueprint was designed to help the state prepare for that disruption.

Replying to the motion of thanks on the governors address in the assembly, Revanth said the vision document aims to help Telangana navigate the coming technological upheaval by creating new employment opportunities, especially in blue-collar sectors, while strengthening welfare and development. The plan, he said, also sets ambitious economic targets — building a $1 trillion state economy by 2035 and a $3 trillion economy by 2047.

The chief minister used the debate to take sharp aim at the opposition BRS, accusing it of failing to recognise the govts long-term vision to rebuild the state and transform it into ‘bangaru Telangana (golden). He said people had expected Leader of Opposition K Chandrasekhar Rao to at least attend the unveiling of the Telugu Thalli statue by governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, but he stayed away.

KCR, Revanth said, had drawn a salary of Rs 1.06 crore since Dec 1, 2023, despite not attending the assembly. There is a serious need to discuss and take a decision when public servants do not attend to their duties but draw salary. It has to be done some day, Revanth said, urging KCR to attend the House.

Emphasising the urgency of preparing for technological disruptions, the chief minister said govts that fail to plan for the impact of AI would face public backlash. The Telangana Rising-2047 document, he said, outlines a broad roadmap covering infrastructure, urban development, employment generation and environmental restoration.

Among the key initiatives listed in the blueprint are the Musi river rejuvenation project, expansion of Hyderabad Metro Rail, and CURE, PURE and RARE urban development initiatives. The govt also plans to revive Hyderabad as a lake-rich, rock-preserving and pollution-free city, Revanth said.

To counter opposition criticism of the Musi project, Revanth played an old video clip in the assembly showing former chief minister KCR stating that there were 28,000 illegal encroachments on nalas and water bodies and that laws allowed authorities to demolish them without even issuing notices.

He also played a video of KT Rama Rao, when he was municipal administration minister, saying that around 10,000 encroachments on the Musi riverbed should be bulldozed.

Amid protests from BRS members that playing video clips violated assembly traditions, Revanth said he had the speakers permission and accused the opposition of changing its stance now that the Congress govt had taken up the project.

What was legal when KCR and KTR talked about bulldozing encroachments has now become illegal just because the Congress govt is taking up the project? The opposition, mainly BRS, is opposing every development project being taken up by the govt. The Congress govt has announced rehabilitation, including alternate housing, jobs, schools and a clean environment for Musi project-affected people, he claimed.

Revanth also asserted that the govt was implementing the Congress partys six electoral guarantees, except one. He was apparently referring to the promised Rs 2,500 monthly financial assistance to women.
