Ahead of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) final between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), former India cricketer Saba Karim said Delhi look stronger than the 2024 champions on paper and have “all bases covered”.
Delhi Capitals will play Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the final of the fourth WPL season at the Vadodara International Cricket Stadium on Thursday. Delhi are aiming for their first title after losing in the finals of the previous three seasons. The team is led by Jemimah Rodrigues this season. Her role has stood out during a tournament where results have varied for the side.
Delhi began the season with two losses, followed by a win against UP Warriorz, and then another defeat. In the second half, they beat Mumbai Indians and RCB in consecutive matches before losing to Gujarat Giants. A win over UP Warriorz secured them a place in the eliminator. In the eliminator, Delhi chased 169 against Gujarat Giants, with a key partnership between Lizelle Lee and Shafali Verma, reversing their earlier losses to the same team.
Speaking on JioHotstar, Saba Karim said Delhi Capitals have been the most consistent team in the WPL, having reached the final in all three previous seasons but failing to win the title.
He said Delhi appear stronger than RCB on paper and that this season could see them change their record in finals. He also spoke about the team environment and said he had expected Delhi to qualify first. According to him, the team has covered all areas going into the final.
Hopefully, it happens for Delhi this time around. This is the fourth season of the TATA WPL, and the Delhi Capitals have been the most consistent team. Finals have been the one big hurdle theyve yet to cross, that perhaps be down to nerves, preparation, or execution on the day. But this is a golden opportunity. Theyre playing under a new captain, the atmosphere in the team is very good, and I thought Delhi would be the first team to qualify, even though they had to take a different route this year. The way they performed in the eliminator, I feel they have all the bases covered. On paper, Delhi Capitals looks like a stronger team than the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. They have a lot of options. Anything could happen in the final; both teams are very strong. Lets see who wins the battle between the two best friends, he said.
