SHIMLA: Veer Soren, the 19-year-old grandson of former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren and the son of Babulal Soren, died under mysterious circumstances in Manali on Tuesday. Veer had come to Manali with his friends on February 22 and stayed at a homestay in Simsa near Manali.

According to police, Veer and his friends visited Solang valley and Sethan villages on the Hamta Pass route on February 23 and returned to the homestay in the evening.

The next day on February 24,Veer stayed back in his room while his other friends went out. When the friends returned, Veer told them that he was experiencing a severe headache, said a police officer.

The friends gave him medicine, and after taking it, he went to sleep. Around 2:30 pm, his friends heard the sound of Veer falling from the bed onto the floor. They saw him unconscious, lying on the floor with foam forming around his mouth, said the officer.

They immediately took him to a government hospital in Manali where doctors gave him CPR but after examination, the doctor declared him dead.

Manali DSP told TOI that the cause of death would become known after the postmortem report comes.

However, according to a senior police officer, the cause of death could be related to high altitude sickness.

Meanwhile, the family members of Veer had reached Manali and the postmortem was still to be conducted till the filing of this report.
