Trichy: Raising the campaign pitch a day ahead of his visit to Tamil Nadu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the DMK was rattled by the popularity of NDA in Tamil Nadu.

The people of Tamil Nadu have seen through the misgovernance and unfulfilled promises of DMK. That is why, they are connecting with the NDAs agenda of hope and progress, Modi said in a post on X, announcing his visit to TN. Modi said he would join leaders of NDA constituents in a rally at Panjapur in Trichy on Wednesday evening.

This is the second NDA rally in Tamil Nadu this month, after the one at Madurai held on March 1. BJP leaders in Tamil Nadu say that the Trichy rally would be a show of strength of NDA in the state, similar to the Madurai meeting where leaders of all the alliance parties participated. Incidentally, the Modi meeting is happening in Trichy two days after the DMK organised its state level conference on a grand scale.

Modi is also set to give a infrastructural push for Tamil Nadu as the state heads for the assembly election. Modi said in another X post that he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for development projects covering petroleum, natural gas, roads and railways among other sectors. The key projects include the foundation stone for the BPCL City Gas Distribution Network in the Nilgiris and Erode districts, he said.

A statement from PIB said that the total worth of projects to be inaugurated or laid foundation stone would be 5650 crore. The PM will inaugurate 89 rural roads developed for a length of 370km in the state under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana and lay the foundation stone for greenfield bypass near Gangaikonda Cholapuram, the statement said. The PM will also virtually flag off two Amrit Bharat Express trains, two Express trains and a passenger train.

Meanwhile, Trichy city police announced traffic diversions on Wednesday. Vehicles from Chennai, Perambalur, and Salem destinations approaching the city will have to use Mannarpuram service road, KK Nagar, and K Sathanur to reach Panjapur bus terminus. Vehicles from Chennai and Perambalur heading to Thanjavur will be diverted via Ariyalur and Thiruvaiyaru, instead of entering the city.
