After she fell through the broken floor of a moving school bus and was crushed under its rear wheel in Kasganj district, police said on Sunday.

Ananya Kumari, a UKG student of Mount Dev International School in Aligarh, near the border with Kasganj, was returning home from school on Saturday when the incident occurred.

Police said the driver stopped the vehicle only after other children and passersby alerted him. The family alleged negligence, claiming the driver was unaware of the incident until informed. No other child was seated next to her at the time.

After the accident, instead of rushing the critically injured girl to a hospital, the driver took her to her father at Malsai Chauraha in Kasganj. She died soon after. The child’s brother was also in the same bus when the accident happened. The girl’s father, Ravi Kumar, operates a community service centre.

The girl’s uncle said the rear wheel ran over her head and chest, causing fatal injuries, and that tyre marks were visible on her body. Police detained the driver and seized the bus. An FIR was registered at Gangeri police station under BNS Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) against bus driver Chandra Prakash and the private school. DSP Aligarh Sanjeev Kumar said, “A probe is on and a checking drive against such buses is being conducted.”

On Sunday, authorities launched a city-wide enforcement drive in Aligarh, during which 62 vehicles operating with expired fitness certificates were seized. ARTO (Enforcement) Pravesh Kumar said that in the current financial year, action has been taken against 316 school vehicles across Aligarh division.
