Gandhinagar: The state govt on Thursday announced that ‘The Mantra of Independence: Vande Mataram will be the theme of Gujarats tableau at the 77th Republic Day parade in Delhi on Jan 26.
On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the song ‘Vande Mataram, the journey of the Indian national flags creation, its evolving essence and history — beginning from the backdrop of the words ‘Vande Mataram—will be the main attraction of Gujarats tableau at the 77th Republic Day celebration, an official statement said.
The tableau will weave the narrative of the ‘Vande Mataram-inscribed flag prepared by Madam Bhikaji Cama, which she first unfurled on foreign soil in Paris in 1907. The heart of the tableaus backdrop will depict the journey of the national flags creation, its evolving essence and its historical development, beginning in 1906, the statement added.
In the final segment, a sculpture of Mahatma Gandhi — who called for independence through the experiment of indigenous self-reliance symbolised by the ‘charkha — will be depicted alongside a large Dharma Chakra, the govt said.
This year, a total of 30 tableaus will be displayed at the Republic Day parade, featuring 17 states and Union Territories, along with 13 tableaus from various departments of the central govt.
