Evaluating the Union Budget 2026-2027, BSP president Mayawati on Sunday said the announcements regarding schemes and projects sounded great but are insufficient for the welfare of all sections of society in case of lack of implementation and performance on the ground.
In a post on X, she said, Regarding the various schemes, projects, promises, and assurances presented by the Central Govt in Parliament today, and their future outcomes, while it seems that the names of these projects and schemes are grand, it would be better if their realisation on the ground is no less. It is essential that the interests of all in society are not merely spoken about but also implemented with true intentions.
The central govts budget is a mirror of the ruling partys policies and intentions, its conduct, character, and face, which reflects whether the govts thinking is truly pro-poor and pro-Bahujan, serving the broader national interest, or a supporter of capitalist thinking, fostering big capitalists and wealthy individuals, said the BSP chief.
Not only this, but especially in the context of our country, it is also of particular importance that if the govts policy is to achieve long-term self-reliance, how much importance was given to the public sector, and what action was taken in accordance with the sacred intentions of the welfare Constitution of the most revered Baba Saheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, she added.
She further said that the budget presented in Parliament today should be examined to determine if, like previous budgets, it is also a disappointment. It also raises the question of whether the govts promises, promises, and hopes made in last years budget were fulfilled or were merely a formality, and whether there was any comparative change in peoples lives.
In fact, more than GDP, there is much-needed development and long-awaited qualitative change in peoples lives, directly linked to the broader public and national interest, and which must be assessed before the current budget is praised. If the govt sheds some light on this, it would be a good thing for the peoples better days; otherwise, who will shoulder this responsibility? said the former UP CM.
